Zhipan
- Monk of the Southern Song. Dates of birth and place of origin unknown. Pen-named Dashi 大石. He lived at the Fuquansi 福泉寺 in Siming 四明, where he studied Tiantai doctrine and contemplation. He made great efforts at compiling hagiographies and other historically-oriented works which were primarily for the purpose of identifying lineages of orthodoxy (especially within Tiantai), but which are also invaluable as records for modern scholars. These include the Zongmenzunzuyi 宗門尊祖儀 (one section), the revised version of Zongjian's 宗鑑 Shimen zhengtong 釋門正統, the Fozu tongji 佛祖統紀, and other works. 〔四教儀 T 1931.46.774b20; 佛祖統紀序〕 [resp.
