- The name of a bodhisattva, also transcribed as 達摩鬱伽陀, translated as 法盛, 法勇, 法上, and 法起. He is stays in Sarvagaṇḍha 香城, where he always expounds the prajñāpāramitā 般若波羅蜜多. The Bodhisattva Ever Wailing 常啼菩薩 is able to reach that city by the empowerment of the Buddha and bodhisattvas just to hear him teach. 〔大智度論, 華嚴經探玄記〕[resp. Charles Muller; source(s): FGD]
- Tan Wujie. A Tang monk from Youzhou 幽州, who had the secular surname of Li 李. He became a śrāmaṇera as a youth, disciplining himself strenuously. Hearing of the travels of monks like Faxian 法顯 who had traveled to India, he became determined to do this for himself. Crossing the desert, he traveled through all the areas of Kucha 龜茲, Kashgar 疏勒, and so forth, eventually reaching Kashmir 罽賓, where he tried to get hold of a Sanskrit version of the Guanshiyin shouji jing 觀世音受記經. He later entered Yuezhi 月氏國, which bordered on India, but having run out of provisions, he got on a ship and returned home. Nothing is known of his activities after that. 〔梁高僧傳〕[resp.
