Zhongnan
- A reference to the mountain monastery Zhongnan Shan in Shanxi 終南山. This was a Buddhist center that was in its earliest period the home base of for Du Shun 杜順. Thus it is usually a reference to him, or to the Huayan school 華嚴宗. There were, however, other important figures who lived and worked at Zhongnan, so this is not necessarily the reference in every case. 〔發心修行章 HBJ 1.841a5〕 [resp. Charles Muller; source(s): DFB]
