rules
- Principles; standards. A way of explaining the meaning of the Buddhist term dharma 法. A rule and its observance, interpreted as to know the rule or doctrine and hold it without confusion with other rules or doctrines. In explaining the usage of the term in the early section of the Cheng weishi lun, Kuiji breaks it into two parts, with 軌 meaning something like "exemplar" or "pattern" and 持 meaning "maintain." He says: ""Exemplar" refers to existent dharmas; "maintaining" refers also to nonexistent dharmas."
有義軌唯有法。持亦通無。
