Basic Meaning: six [primary] afflictions
Senses:
These afflictions are the basic set from which all of the secondary afflictions 隨煩惱 are derived; thus, they are also called the basic afflictions 根本煩惱. This set of six comprises one of the six groups of mental factors 心所有法 taught in the Yogâcāra system. The six are:
- desire (greed, craving) 貪 (also written 愛 and 欲),
- anger 瞋 (or 恚),
- ignorance 癡,
- pride 慢,
- doubt 疑 and
- false views 見.
